Granada earthquakes prompt government aid and Alhambra reopening

A series of earthquakes in Granada, Spain, has prompted significant government action and community response. The Junta de Andalucía has announced that it will provide aid to families displaced by the seismic activity. Housing Minister Rocío Díaz visited local shelters to meet with residents, stating that the government is working to determine the appropriate financial instruments and the exact extent of the damage before setting aid amounts.

In response to the ongoing seismic swarm, which has included over 1,000 tremors, local authorities and health professionals are managing public safety. While the Mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, noted that nearly 700 buildings have been inspected with no major structural damage reported, false alarms regarding ‘collapse risks’ have circulated via graffiti, prompting police warnings.

Cultural sites are also responding to the situation. The Alhambra and Generalife are undergoing a progressive reopening of tourist routes as seismic activity stabilizes, though certain areas like the Alcazaba remain closed. Meanwhile, religious leaders have called for a procession of rogatives to seek protection for the city.
