Aliağa commemorates 104th anniversary of liberation from occupation

Aliağa celebrated the 104th anniversary of its liberation from occupation with ceremonies held at Cumhuriyet Square. The event included the presentation of wreaths to the Atatürk Monument by the District Governor, Garrison Commander, and Deputy Mayor, followed by a moment of silence and the national anthem.

During the program, Aliağa Deputy Mayor Mesut Öztürk delivered a speech emphasizing that the day serves as a reminder of the spirit of the National Struggle and the determination for independence. He noted that Aliağa was liberated on September 13, following the liberation of Izmir on September 9, 1922. Öztürk honored Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the soldiers of the 25th Regiment, commanded by Captain Mehmet Sait Bey, who participated in the liberation.

The commemorations included student poetry readings and a Zeybek dance performance by the Aliağa Municipality Folk Dance Team. Additionally, a photography exhibition titled ‘Aliağa from Liberation to the Republic’ was organized to mark the occasion.
