Aliança Catalana sees surge in support amid shifting Catalan politics

Aliança Catalana is experiencing significant growth in Catalonia, according to recent polling data. Projections suggest the party, led by Sílvia Orriols, could expand from its current two seats to over twenty in the Catalan Parliament, potentially competing for second place. This rise is largely driven by voters migrating from other parties, specifically Junts and Vox.

Analysis indicates that Aliança Catalana is attracting approximately 28% of Junts voters and 23% of Vox voters. The party’s growth is attributed to a combination of anti-immigration rhetoric and criticism of traditional pro-independence parties for the perceived failure of the 2017 independence process. While initially rooted in Girona and Lleida, the party’s expansion is now becoming more geographically widespread, reaching Barcelona and Tarragona.

In response to reports suggesting shared nativist discourse between Vox and Aliança Catalana, Vox leadership has dismissed such comparisons as “forced and out of context.” Vox maintains that its platform focuses on national sovereignty, border control, and the legal protection of Spanish citizens, rejecting any labels of racism or xenophobia.
