Alianza FC secures historic Copa Centroamericana quarterfinal berth

In the 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup, Alianza FC made history by becoming the first Salvadoran team to secure a spot in the quarterfinals following a 1-0 victory over Marathón in Honduras, courtesy of a goal by Matías Mier. Alianza currently leads Group B with nine points.

In Group D, Club Deportivo FAS and Municipal of Guatemala played to a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Cuscatlán. Jorge Cruz opened the scoring for FAS in the 35th minute, but Cristian Hernández equalized for Municipal via a penalty in the 44th minute. The result leaves FAS in fourth place with four points, requiring a win against Cartaginés in their final match to advance, while Municipal sits in third with five points.

Other regional developments include Xelajú and Mixco maintaining their hopes in their respective groups, while Herediano remains in a precarious position in Group B, needing a victory against Antigua to stay in contention for the knockout stages.
