Alibeyköy hosts second annual peanut harvest festival in Edirne

The second annual Meriç Alibeyköy Peanut Harvest Festival was held in the Alibeyköy village of Edirne's Meriç district. The event, supported by the Edirne Governorship and the Trakya Development Agency, featured a field harvest, a parade, and traditional folk dance performances.

Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer highlighted the unique value of the local peanuts, noting that the region uses the same ancestral seeds that have been cultivated for approximately 100 years. This specific seed variety is unique to the area, resulting in a high-protein product with a distinct flavor that commands prices nearly twice as high as competitors in the market.

To support the industry, a sorting and drying facility has been established, with a packaging plant expected to become operational this year. Local officials expressed goals to brand the product globally, noting its increasing presence in national supermarket chains under the ‘Edirne Yöresel’ brand and its utility in high-protein food products like protein bars.
