Alice Schwarzer announces end of EMMA magazine

Alice Schwarzer, founder of the influential German feminist magazine EMMA, has announced that the print publication will be discontinued. Since its inception in 1977, the magazine has played a significant role in the German women's movement, covering topics such as abortion rights, sexual violence, and economic entrepreneurship.

Historian Kerstin Wolff, who manages the archive of the German women's movement at the University of Kassel, noted that EMMA was crucial due to its broad readership and Schwarzer's ability to pose pointed questions. However, the magazine's legacy faces a generational divide; many younger feminists criticize Schwarzer, particularly regarding her stances on gender identity and trans issues.
