Aliko Dangote says he wants to be remembered for industrialising Africa
Nigeria’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, told a street interviewer that his legacy goal is to industrialise Africa rather than be noted for his wealth. He suggested that current estimates of his net worth – about $38 billion – underestimate his assets, many of which remain privately held and are not reflected in public market valuations. Dangote said the full value will become clearer when the Dangote Group lists some of its major holdings, such as the petroleum refinery, in the near future. He highlighted that his companies generated roughly $10 billion in revenue in the first quarter and that an IPO of the refinery could become one of the largest capital‑market transactions in African history. Emphasising Africa’s demographic advantage, he noted that 70 % of the continent’s population is under 30 and projected to reach 2.5 billion by 2050, calling the continent “the real future.”
