Alireza Sepahi and Alireza Raeisi executed in Isfahan
Alireza Sepahi and Alireza Raeisi, two detainees from the January 2026 protests, were executed on Monday morning at Dashtgard Prison in Isfahan. The executions are linked to the Alikhani Square incident, which occurred on January 8, 2026, following clashes between protesters and government forces.
Legal representatives reported that although the Supreme Court had initially agreed to a retrial for Sepahi, the Isfahan Revolutionary Court rejected the request without a hearing and proceeded with the execution within 48 hours. Defense advocates have raised concerns regarding the judicial process, noting that CCTV footage and other evidence allegedly suggest Sepahi was not present at Alikhani Square during the incident in question.
Sepahi, born in 2001, had been sentenced to four death penalties. Prior to his execution, he married his partner, Mahshad Kashani, via telephone while both were in detention. Kashani, a student, remains imprisoned following a confirmed five-year sentence.
