All India Football Federation adopts revised constitution, adds OCI player rules for ISL

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) held a virtual Special General Body Meeting on June 20, 2026, to adopt a revised constitution that brings the federation into compliance with the National Sports Governance Act of 2025. The meeting, attended by AIFF executives, member‑association representatives, and officials from FIFA and the AFC, resulted in unanimous approval of the new constitution and the formation of an AIFF Election Panel comprising Shri Sunil Arora, Dr. Vivek Gogia, an Inspector General of Police from Goa, and Shri Surinder Singh Gurm.

The Body also set the start of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026‑27 season for September 4, 2026, and approved the calendar for the 2027‑28 season (June 1 2027 – May 31 2028). It resolved to propose renaming the AIFF as the Football Federation of Bharat and to play the national anthem and song before matches. New player regulations permit clubs to field three foreign players and one Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) player, while mandating that an Indian striker remain on the pitch for the full 90 minutes. Amendments to the disciplinary code introduce higher fines for abusive language, stronger anti‑discrimination measures, and updated appeal fees. Additional approvals include reduced tournament fees, linkage of player registration profiles to DigiLocker, and continued fee waivers for certain youth categories.
