Allgäu cattle drive dates set for 2026 season

Several traditional cattle drives, known as Viehscheid, have been scheduled for the Allgäu region in 2026. These events mark the return of livestock from alpine pastures to the valleys.

In Wertach, one of the largest and oldest drives, the event is set for Friday, September 18, 2026, featuring approximately 700 cattle and a market with up to 70 stalls. Nesselwang will host its drive on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, with about 140 young cattle returning to the valley.

Smaller celebrations include Bolsterlang, scheduled for Tuesday, September 22, 2026, involving roughly 500 young cattle. Memhölz, noted for being particularly popular with families, will hold its event on Saturday, October 3, 2026, with a small herd of 30 to 50 animals, including cattle, goats, and ponies.
