Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians launches election program amid status dispute
The Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM) has released its 12-point election program for the upcoming extraordinary parliamentary elections in Serbia. The program, which outlines goals through 2030, focuses on addressing demographic decline, the emigration of youth, climate change impacts on agriculture, and shortages in healthcare and public services. Party executive committee president Bálint Juhász stated that the program aims to promote economic development, water management, and the protection of minority rights.
Simultaneously, the Democratic Community of Vojvodina Hungarians (DZVM) has challenged the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) regarding the official status of the SVM candidate list. The DZVM is demanding transparency after the RIK designated the ‘Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians – Dr. Bálint Pastor’ list as a national minority list. The DZVM questions this classification, alleging that the list includes several candidates residing in Belgrade and others who appear to belong to the majority ethnic group rather than the Hungarian minority.
