Almería political group rejects loss of direct Almería-Madrid train service

The political group Izquierda Unida (IU) Almería has formally rejected the permanent suppression of the direct train service connecting Almería and Madrid via Linares-Baeza. The historical rail link has been interrupted and replaced by road-based transfers.

María Jesús Amate, the provincial coordinator for IU, joined representatives from the Mesa del Ferrocarril at the Huércal de Almería station to protest the decision, describing it as a “railway mourning” and a setback for regional mobility. The group argues that replacing train carriages with buses due to ongoing infrastructure works fails to provide competitive travel times or frequencies, leaving thousands of users underserved.

IU Almería has escalated the issue to the Congress of Deputies, registering initiatives to demand that the central government maintain the service and prevent the permanent loss of frequencies. The organization contends that while other parts of the country see infrastructure modernization, Almería is experiencing a decline in connectivity.
