Almond production in Adıyaman faces significant decline

Almond production in Adıyaman, Turkey, is facing a significant decline. Fatin Rüştü Turanlı, President of the Kahta Chamber of Agriculture, warned that the harvest yield for 2026 is expected to drop to between 18,000 and 20,000 tons, down from approximately 25,000 tons in 2025.

Several factors are contributing to this decrease, including economic pressures that have led farmers to uproot orchards and excessive rainfall during the flowering period. Turanlı noted that approximately 5,000 decares of almond orchards were uprooted in Adıyaman last year. He emphasized that these orchards represent national wealth and that losing them could increase dependency on imports.

Turanlı has called on Agricultural Credit Cooperatives and relevant institutions to announce almond purchase prices before the harvest begins. He stressed that price predictability and the consideration of rising input costs are essential for producers to plan their production and sales effectively.
