Dietary habits and nutrition play key roles in managing heart health
Medical experts and recent studies highlight the critical role of dietary choices in managing cardiovascular health, specifically regarding cholesterol and blood pressure.
Nutritional research suggests that almonds can significantly reduce total and LDL cholesterol levels due to their high fiber, plant sterols, and vitamin E content. Similarly, consuming 60 to 100 grams of whole grains daily, such as oats or barley, is linked to improved metabolic indicators. Specifically, barley has been shown to lower diastolic blood pressure and reduce inflammation in blood vessels.
Regarding protein, white beans are recommended as a tool for blood pressure control because they are rich in potassium and magnesium, which help regulate fluid balance and relax blood vessel walls.
New findings from the University of South Australia challenge long-held myths about eggs, suggesting that dietary cholesterol from eggs does not necessarily raise LDL levels if saturated fat intake remains low. Instead, experts warn that saturated fats found in processed meats like bacon are the primary drivers of arterial plaque buildup.
Cardiologists also warn against lifestyle habits that increase heart disease risk, including excessive salt intake (recommending no more than 2,300 mg of sodium daily), physical inactivity, lack of sleep, and social isolation.
