Alonissos ranked among top 10 global sustainable tourism destinations
Alonissos has been named one of the top ten global destinations for responsible and sustainable tourism for 2027. The Greek island ranked fifth on the ‘Intrepid Travel 2027 Not Hot List’, a selection by the British tour operator designed to highlight lesser-known destinations capable of hosting increased visitor numbers through sustainable practices.
Alonissos is the only Greek and Mediterranean destination included in the list. The recognition follows collaborative efforts between the Municipality of Alonissos and the UK & Ireland branch of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) to provide data regarding visitor numbers, sustainability initiatives, infrastructure, connectivity, and environmental protections.
The ‘Not Hot List’ initiative aims to redirect tourist interest away from overcrowded hotspots toward regions where tourism growth can provide meaningful benefits to local communities, economies, and culture.
