Alpha Bank finances major energy and technology projects in Greece

Alpha Bank has provided financing for two significant infrastructure projects in Greece aimed at energy transition and digital advancement.

The first project is a 170 million euro energy storage facility in Thessaly, implemented by METLEN and the Karatzis Group. Alpha Bank served as the exclusive arranger and lender, providing 56 million euros in funding, supplemented by 81 million euros from the Recovery and Resilience Fund. The 330 MW, 790 MWh unit is the largest autonomous energy storage facility in the country, designed to manage surplus renewable energy and stabilize costs.

The second project involves the development of ‘Daidalos’, the new national supercomputer located in Lavrio. Alpha Bank acted as the sole financier for the Greek company MainSys, which is working in collaboration with HP to construct and upgrade the necessary facilities. This project has a total budget of 59 million euros, with MainSys managing works valued at approximately 14 million euros.
