Alpine rescue teams free two elderly adventurers from trees in Austria and Italy

A 73‑year‑old glider pilot from Vienna was rescued after his paraglider became lodged in a tree about 15 metres high near Neuberg an der Mürz, Austria. He was unharmed after mountain‑rescue personnel and volunteer firefighters used a turntable ladder to free him.

In Italy’s South Tyrol, a 66‑year‑old German tourist suffered severe injuries when he fell while attempting to climb a tree to retrieve a stuck drone near Ratschings. He was air‑lifted to a hospital in Bolzano with a serious poly‑trauma.

Both incidents illustrate the risks of alpine recreation and the rapid response of local rescue services.
