Abruzzo mountain rescue operations and new guided‑hike partnership

On 2 June, the National Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps (CNSAS) was mobilised for two separate incidents in the L'Aquila mountains of Abruzzo. One operation rescued a 23‑year‑old hiker from Genzano di Roma who required assistance while on a summer trail. The rescues underline the region’s growing demand for specialized mountain‑rescue services as hiking activity rises in the warmer months.

In parallel, the Gran Sasso Guides Association and Wolftour Discover Abruzzo have signed a collaboration to organise a series of guided excursions across the Gran Sasso, Monti Gemelli and Monti della Laga during June and July 2026. The programme offers routes for both casual walkers (level E) and experienced hikers (level EE), with professional guides holding Alpine Guide and International Mountain Leader qualifications, aiming to promote safe, structured mountain tourism in the region.
