Alpine sets performance criteria for Franco Colapinto, eyes 2027 extension
Franco Colapinto has impressed Alpine with five point‑scoring finishes this season, amassing 18 points and sitting 13th in the drivers' standings. Alpine executive Steve Nielsen said the Argentine’s future beyond the 2026 contract will depend on meeting concrete performance benchmarks, stating, “If he’s good enough, he stays; if not, there’s a better option.”
Colapinto will also appear at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England, driving the historic Lotus E20 on 12 July. The two exhibition runs – at 06:00 and 09:25 Argentine time – will be streamed live on the event’s official YouTube channel and are free for fans to watch.
Japanese outlet Shiga Sports reports that Alpine plans to announce a formal extension for Colapinto for the 2027 season before the Hungarian Grand Prix at the end of July. The extension would reward his role in developing the A526 chassis, which has helped Alpine climb to fifth place in the constructors’ championship.
