Alpiq acquires Germany’s largest battery storage project

Alpiq, a Swiss-based energy company, has acquired the Bollingstedt battery energy storage system (BESS) in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, from Eco Stor. The facility has a capacity of 103.5 MW and 238 MWh.

Bollingstedt, which went online in mid-2025, is recognized as the largest operational battery storage project in Germany. While Alpiq has acquired the operating company Eco Power One GmbH through a bidding process, Eco Stor will remain responsible for the technical and operational management of the site.

This acquisition expands Alpiq’s European battery portfolio, which already includes projects in France and Finland. The company also recently acquired the UK-based BESS platform Harmony Energy, further increasing its presence in the energy storage sector.
