Turkish municipalities launch major water and sewage infrastructure projects

Municipalities across Turkey are undertaking significant infrastructure projects to improve water management and prevent flooding.

In Bursa, the Metropolitan Municipality is implementing sewage and stormwater upgrades. Projects include a 715-meter wastewater line in Nilüferköy and a 500-meter line in Mudanya to prevent waste discharge into streams. Additionally, crews are cleaning over 13,500 stormwater grates to prepare for autumn rains.

In İzmir, İZSU is executing a 3 billion TL infrastructure project in the Alsancak Port area, funded by the World Bank. This initiative aims to separate rainwater and sewage systems to mitigate the impact of climate-driven heavy rainfall. The project involves constructing over 16 kilometers of new lines, including 8.4 kilometers of rainwater pipes.

Other regional efforts include addressing long-standing flooding in Keçiören through massive rainwater line construction and resolving sewage issues in Datça with a new 4,000-meter pipeline. In Düzce, local authorities are prioritizing large-scale drinking water infrastructure and wastewater treatment plant developments.
