ALTA Aviation Law Conference addresses regional regulatory challenges

More than 170 airline executives, lawyers, and experts gathered in Miami for the ALTA Aviation Law Americas Conference 2026. Organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), the annual event focused on the legal and aeropolitical challenges facing the Americas, the Caribbean, and Europe.

Key discussion topics included the impact of international sanctions on air operations, U.S. trade and tariff legal landscapes, and taxation in the Brazilian market. The conference also addressed technological advancements, such as the FAA-driven regulatory framework for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), drone regulation for cargo, and the legal risks associated with using artificial intelligence in passenger experiences.

ALTA CEO Peter Cerdá noted that regulation can serve as either a growth driver or an obstacle. He highlighted that approximately 480 million passengers traveled through Latin America and the Caribbean in 2025, pointing to the region's significant market potential and the influence of different regulatory approaches in countries like Brazil and Argentina.
