German cultural venues celebrate festivals and reopenings
The Alte Oper in Frankfurt is hosting the fourth edition of the Fratopia Festival, which offers free admission to 250 concerts through September 27. Intendant Markus Fein designed the “Festival of Discoveries” to attract a diverse audience and first-time visitors. The event features a wide range of programming across all halls and foyers, including specialized offerings such as “scent concerts” in the Schumann Salon, where musicians perform in coordination with custom-developed fragrances.
In Cologne, the Opernquartier at Offenbachplatz has officially reopened following a 14-year construction period. During the opening ceremony, Mayor Torsten Burmester apologized for past management errors and delays that had separated the site from city life. Opera Director Hein Mulders expressed relief at the completion of the project while noting that technical challenges regarding stage technology remain to be addressed before the upcoming premiere of ‘Rosenkavalier’.
