Olfen senior home knife attack leaves one dead and two injured

A 72-year-old resident of the St. Vitus-Stift senior home in Olfen, Germany, launched a knife attack on fellow residents in the facility's cafeteria on a Friday evening. The attack resulted in the death of an 86-year-old woman at the scene. Two other women, aged 81 and 83, were seriously injured and transported to hospitals; one was initially reported to be in critical condition but has since stabilized.

The perpetrator, who is a wheelchair user, was arrested by police without resistance. He reportedly returned to his room following the attack before being apprehended. Initial reports suggest the suspect may have claimed to feel bullied by his fellow residents, though official motives have not been confirmed by the prosecutor's office.

A homicide commission has been established to investigate the incident. The suspect is facing charges including manslaughter and attempted manslaughter. He has been placed in custody and is expected to be held in a judicial hospital.
