Bamberg faces major political clash as right-wing and counter-protests converge

In Bamberg, Germany, a significant political confrontation is expected as the alliance ‘Einigkeit für Deutschland / Projekt M1llion’ has registered a demonstration with up to 10,000 participants. The group, which describes itself as a non-partisan citizens' movement, has presented an 11-point plan that includes demands for the immediate resignation of the federal government and new elections. Critics and civil society organizations have raised concerns regarding potential links between the initiative and right-wing extremist circles.

In response, various groups including ‘Omas gegen Rechts’, ‘Fridays for Future’, and ‘Buntes Bamberg’ are mobilizing large-scale counter-protests to promote diversity and social cohesion. Bamberg’s Mayor, Sebastian Niedermaier, has publicly positioned himself against social division and announced his intention to participate in the counter-demonstration. Police are preparing a large-scale deployment to manage the tension as both groups are expected to march through the same areas of the city center.
