Altroconsumo ranks nut spreads based on nutritional value
Altroconsumo has conducted a nutritional analysis of over 120 nut-based spreads, including almond, peanut, hazelnut, and pistachio varieties, as well as cocoa-hazelnut mixes. The study evaluated ingredients and nutritional labels, comparing well-known brands like Nutella against various supermarket and discount store alternatives.
The results indicate a clear preference for products composed of 100% nuts without added sugars or oils. Almond-based spreads dominated the top rankings, with Damiano Bio Amandino 100% toasted almond cream receiving the highest score of 93 out of 100. Other high-scoring products (92 points) included 100% nut creams from Conad, Coop, Esselunga, Euro Company, and Selex.
Hazelnut spreads appeared later in the rankings, with the Coop Fior Fiore 100% hazelnut cream securing the ninth position with 91 points. The study highlights that products with higher sugar and added ingredient content scored significantly lower in the rankings.
