Alvorada municipality sued over noise pollution enforcement
The Public Ministry of Tocantins (MPTO) has filed a Public Civil Action against the Municipality of Alvorada to compel the local government to implement measures against noise pollution. The legal action follows the municipality's failure to act on previous ministerial recommendations regarding frequent disturbances of the peace.
Residents have reported excessive noise from automotive sound systems, motorcycles with modified exhausts, and loud commercial establishments, particularly between 10:00 PM and 4:00 AM on weekends and holidays. Military Police data corroborates these reports, noting numerous fines issued for irregular sound use and vehicle exhaust violations in the city center and neighborhoods such as Jardim Alvorada and Santa Ângela.
The MPTO is requesting that the city administration take urgent steps, including hiring inspectors within 30 days, purchasing certified decibel meters, providing official vehicles for enforcement teams, and establishing night and holiday shifts. Additionally, the ministry seeks the creation of a secure reporting channel for citizens and the implementation of educational campaigns for bars and event venues.
