Legal disputes regarding Alvorada municipal services
Overview
The Public Prosecutor's Office of Tocantins (MPTO) has initiated legal action against the Municipality of Alvorada to address a prolonged public lighting outage on Avenida Dioga Ribeiro. The avenue has been partially dark for over six months, which residents claim has led to increased security issues, including thefts and drug use.
The municipality attributed the outage to the theft of roughly 1,000 meters of electrical cables in December 2025. While the city suggested that the concessionaire Ecovias do Araguaia should manage repairs due to ongoing BR-153 duplication works, the concessionaire stated that the lighting system is municipal property. Ecovias noted that while a new system is planned for the BR-153 marginal roads, implementation is contingent upon the municipality regularizing the property status of the area.
