Alvorada prosecutor sues municipality over six-month lighting outage

The Public Prosecutor's Office of Tocantins (MPTO) has filed a civil public action against the Municipality of Alvorada to urgently restore public lighting on Avenida Dioga Ribeiro. The avenue has been partially without light for over six months, causing security concerns among residents, including reports of thefts and drug use.

The municipality stated that the outage resulted from the theft of approximately 1,000 meters of electrical cables in December 2025. While the city suggested that repairs should be handled by the concessionaire Ecovias do Araguaia due to ongoing BR-153 duplication works, the concessionaire clarified that the current lighting system is municipal property. Ecovias noted that while a new system is planned for the BR-153 marginal roads, its execution depends on the municipality regularizing the area's property status.
