Alzheimer awareness initiatives focus on diagnostic accuracy

As part of Alzheimer awareness month in September, medical organizations are emphasizing the critical importance of accurate diagnosis for neurocognitive diseases.

In France, the Fondation Vaincre Alzheimer will present its 2026 report at the Académie nationale de médecine in Paris. The report, titled ‘What if it is not Alzheimer? Understanding and defeating other neurocognitive diseases’, aims to clarify the distinctions between Alzheimer's and other similar pathologies to ensure patients receive appropriate care. Experts will discuss the clinical and semantic shift toward no longer referring to these conditions simply as Alzheimer-related diseases.

In Madagascar, the association Madagascar Alzheimer Masoandro Mody is highlighting that early diagnosis is essential for accessing pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. The association noted a global lack of understanding, stating that 80% of the public and 65% of health professionals incorrectly believe these diseases are a normal part of aging. With over 55 million people affected worldwide, the organization is conducting awareness activities to help recognize early warning signs and risk factors.
