Global Alzheimer awareness and cognitive research

During Alzheimer awareness month and World Alzheimer Day, various international organizations and researchers have focused on diagnostic accuracy, public education, and the influence of personality on cognitive health.

In France, the Fondation Vaincre Alzheimer is presenting a report titled ‘What if it is not Alzheimer? Understanding and defeating other neurocognitive diseases’ to help distinguish Alzheimer’s from similar pathologies. Meanwhile, in Madagascar, the association Madagascar Alzheimer Masoandro Mody is working to correct the misconception that neurocognitive diseases are a normal part of aging, noting that 80% of the public and 65% of health professionals hold this incorrect belief.

In the Netherlands, the Jeroen Bosch Hospital is providing support for patients and caregivers under the theme ‘I keep participating’ to assist with symptom recognition and local service access. Complementing these awareness efforts, research from the University of Montpellier suggests that personality traits, such as neuroticism, conscientiousness, and openness, serve as significant predictors of memory recall and dementia risk.
