Alzheimer support initiatives launch community programs in Galicia and Salamanca

The Galician association Afamo will implement the EU‑funded program “A música nas artesanías primixenias do mar” from the second half of this year through 2027. Backed by nearly €42,000 from the Fempa fund, the project will run 135 workshops in the municipalities of Cangas, Moaña and Vilaboa, focusing on maritime crafts, traditional sea‑food preparation and cultural memory for people with Alzheimer’s and other cognitive disabilities.

In Salamanca, the Association of Families of Alzheimer’s Patients (AFA) has started the “La mochila viajera” campaign. The initiative invites citizens to purchase a solidary backpack for €6, symbolising the load carried by families of Alzheimer’s sufferers. The campaign, running for over a year, aims to increase awareness and fund support services for the association’s 750 members and the roughly 120 families it assists daily.
