AM Green wins €585 million German auction for green ammonia supply

AM Green has been selected as the sole winner of the Asian lot in a German-backed H2Global auction to supply renewable ammonia to Germany. Hintco, the trading arm of H2Global, will purchase Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) ammonia from the India-based developer for a minimum value of €585 million (approximately $663.75 million) over a 10-year period.

The ammonia will be produced at the second phase of AM Green’s Kakinada facility in Andhra Pradesh. The project involves converting an existing natural gas-based ammonia and urea production complex into a facility utilizing alkaline electrolysis technology, with a design capacity of 1 million metric tons per annum. To comply with European Union regulations, the production process will be powered by round-the-clock renewable energy supported by pumped hydro storage.

First deliveries from Kakinada seaports are expected to reach Germany in 2029. Hintco indicated it may purchase additional volumes using proceeds generated from reselling the green ammonia within the European market. Full auction results for other regional lots, including Africa, North America, South America, and Oceania, are expected to be published by the end of 2026.
