Amalfi Coast: US tourist injured in 20-meter jump

A young American tourist was seriously injured after jumping from a bridge at Fiordo di Furore on Italy’s Amalfi Coast. The individual reportedly attempted to follow an internet trend by jumping into the sea from the SS 163 Amalfitana highway.

The fall spanned over 20 meters, resulting in a heavy impact with the water. Emergency responders, including Red Cross paramedics, Carabinieri, and local police, conducted a rescue operation that involved carrying the victim up steep stairs to the roadway. A rescue helicopter subsequently transported the man to a hospital.

Initial medical assessments suggest the tourist may have sustained a spinal injury. Local authorities temporarily closed traffic on the SS 163 and cleared the beach below the site during the emergency response. Investigations into the exact circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
