US tourist injury on Amalfi Coast
Overview
An American tourist was seriously injured on Italy’s Amalfi Coast after jumping from a bridge at Fiordo di Furore. The individual reportedly attempted to follow an internet trend by jumping from the SS 163 Amalfitana highway, falling over 20 meters into the sea.
Emergency responders, including the Carabinieri and Red Cross, rescued the victim and transported him to a hospital via helicopter. Initial reports indicated a potential spinal injury.
Subsequent reports identified the victim as Jacob Fleig, a 22-year-old engineering student from Berlin Township, New Jersey. Fleig remains in intensive care following multiple life-saving surgeries. His family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to cover medical expenses and the costs of transporting him back to the United States.
