Amarnath Yatra 2026 security and infrastructure preparations reviewed

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Security for Jammu & Kashmir, Sujit Kumar, conducted a comprehensive inspection of security arrangements for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026. The review covered the newly created River Front Lodging and Registration Centre in Jammu and key pilgrim transit camps at Bhagwati Nagar, Chanderkote and Lamber, focusing on access control, crowd management, surveillance, emergency response and anti‑sabotage measures. Directions were issued to strengthen the security grid, improve coordination with district police and Central Armed Police Forces, and conduct regular audits.

In a parallel high‑level meeting, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired officials from multiple departments to assess overall Yatra preparedness. He ordered completion of infrastructure upgrades, including widening of the Baltal and Pahalgam tracks to 12 feet, installation of crash barriers, handrails, and warning signage, as well as enhancements to sanitation, water, power, health facilities, disaster management, and telecom connectivity. Additional directives covered increasing holding capacity, expanding toilet and ambulance services, ensuring RFID‑based pilgrim registration, fencing pony stands, and finalising emergency evacuation plans ahead of the pilgrimage scheduled for July 3 to August 28, 2026.
