Amarnath Yatra 2026: Resumption & 4‑Lakh Pilgrims

Entities: Jammu and Kashmir · Pahalgam · Manoj Sinha · Sunil (pilgrim from Mahoba district) · Lord Shiva

Overview

After a six‑day suspension due to heavy rain, the Amarnath Yatra reopened on July 25, routing all pilgrim traffic through the shorter Baltal trail while the traditional Pahalgam axis remained closed for urgent repairs. A convoy of 6,269 devotees departed Bhagwati Nagar in a 223‑vehicle convoy under tight security, and subsequent convoys continued to cross the Ramban district. By the time of resumption, nearly four lakh pilgrims had visited the shrine this season, with about 1.2 lakh having started from Jammu. Parallel pilgrimages at Vaishno Devi also recommenced, whereas the Shiv Khori trek stayed suspended.

On July 26 the Yatra crossed the 4.14 lakh darshan milestone. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who chairs the Shrine Board, thanked Lord Shiva and noted that the pilgrimage would run until August 28. Pilgrims continue to travel exclusively via the Baltal route, with security and medical teams deployed along the trail.

A further convoy of 1,795 pilgrims left Jammu on July 29, raising the total number of departures from the state to 134,201. The sacred silver mace "Chhari Mubarak" was moved to Pahalgam for a ceremonial pujan, and Mahant Deependra Giri reported that more than 4.25 lakh pilgrims have already completed the Yatra this year. Large gatherings were also reported at the nearby Tali Mata temple near the India‑Pakistan border, underscoring the broader seasonal devotion in the region.
