Amarnath Yatra security bolstered by Jammu command centre and NDMA drill

Jammu’s Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), inaugurated in March 2023 under the Smart Cities Mission, will serve as the hub for the Amarnath Yatra security operation that begins on July 3. The facility links more than 610 CCTV and PTZ cameras across the city, allowing police, traffic authorities and the Jammu Municipal Corporation to monitor pilgrimage routes, base camps and civic services in real time. Officials say the single‑platform coordination enables rapid response to any suspicious activity and smoother traffic flow for pilgrims.

In parallel, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) conducted a large‑scale mock exercise at Nunwan Base Camp in Anantnag. The drill, overseen by Major General Sudhir Bahl (Rtd.), involved the civil administration, police, army, CRPF, ITBP, BSF, fire services, health departments and other agencies. Simulated scenarios included medical emergencies, fires, flash floods and evacuation procedures at several Yatra stations, testing inter‑agency communication and emergency response ahead of the pilgrimage.
