India prepares heightened security for Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage

The Jammu and Kashmir police have announced a multi‑layered security operation for the annual Amarnath Yatra, which begins on July 3 and runs for 57 days until August 28. Deputy Inspector General Shiv Kumar Sharma said forces from the Army, police, CRPF, BSF and other agencies are being deployed across the Reasi and Udhampur districts, covering the pilgrimage routes from Nunwan‑Pahalgam and Baltal as well as the nearby Vaishno Devi and Shiv Khori shrines.

Intelligence agencies are sharing information continuously, and security teams are conducting search operations, surveillance and community outreach to monitor vulnerable locations. Pilgrims and residents are urged to report any suspicious activity, and ambulance and emergency response services have been readied. The coordinated effort aims to prevent militant threats, dismantle support networks and maintain public confidence during the pilgrimage season.
