Amarnath Yatra security review and mountain rescue deployment in Jammu & Kashmir

A high‑powered delegation of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, led by Home Secretary Govind Mohan, will visit Jammu and Kashmir on June 20‑21 to review security, accommodation, transport, medical and communication arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra, which runs from July 3 to August 28. The team includes senior officials from the CRPF, BSF, SSB, Intelligence Bureau and other agencies, and will assess the deployment of 670 paramilitary companies that already covers about 90 % of the required security.

Separately, the Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police has flagged off 45 mountain‑rescue teams—drawn from the state police, State and National Disaster Response Forces, CRPF, SSB and BSF—to be stationed at 21 points along the two pilgrimage routes. Mock drills were conducted in Pulwama and Kulgam districts to test emergency response and inter‑agency coordination, aiming to ensure a safe, incident‑free pilgrimage for the expected influx of devotees.
