Amasya flower okra sells for high prices in local markets

The registered flower okra from Amasya is being sold in local markets in small quantities due to its high value. In Amasya, the price for fresh okra is 300 TL per kilogram, while the dried version reaches 3,000 TL per kilogram. Because of the high cost, customers frequently purchase the dried variety in 100 or 200-gram increments.

The production process involves collecting small okra every morning for approximately four months and stringing them on threads to dry. This specific variety is highly regarded in the region, with locals referring to it as ‘Hızır’ın cebinden düşen bamya’ (okra fallen from Hızır’s pocket).

In other regions such as Konya and Kayseri, where the geographically indicated flower okra is used as a main dish for ceremonies, weddings, and religious gatherings, an expected yield of approximately 2,500 tons is anticipated this year.
