Amasya misket apple harvest begins in Turkey

The harvest of the geographically indicated Amasya misket apple has begun in Amasya, Turkey. This variety, which has been cultivated for 2,000 years, is known for its unique aroma, star-shaped seeds when cut horizontally, and a distinct ‘crunching’ sound when bitten.

Mustafa Cebeci, President of the Amasya Chamber of Agriculture, stated that the harvest is expected to be plentiful this year. Approximately 6,500 tons of misket apples are anticipated from 2,200 decares of cultivation area. Local producers are harvesting the fruit from early morning, and even apples that fall to the ground are collected and sent to factories to contribute to the economy.

Prices for the apples on the branch range between 10 TL and 30 TL. Local farmers noted that this season provides relief following previous agricultural challenges, such as frost damage experienced in prior years.
