Apple harvesting in Turkey

Overview

Apple harvesting has commenced across several major production regions in Turkey.

In Amasya, the harvest of the geographically indicated Amasya misket apple has begun. Local officials expect a plentiful season, with approximately 6,500 tons anticipated from 2,200 decares of cultivation area. This season is noted by farmers as providing relief following previous agricultural challenges like frost damage.

Simultaneously, harvesting has started in the Isparta and Karaman regions. Isparta, which produces about one-quarter of the nation’s apples, expects a yield of 1.25 million tons, with fruit being moved to cold storage for export. In Karaman, where 16 million trees are in production, the target yield is 700,000 tons. The process in Karaman involves more than 30,000 seasonal workers, who follow strict collection limits to prevent bruising and ensure the fruit meets international export standards.
