Amazon Alexa introduces AI-driven ‘Update Me When’ shopping alerts

Amazon has introduced a new feature for its Alexa for Shopping AI assistant called ‘Update Me When’. This tool allows users to receive personalized notifications regarding specific events that may prompt a purchase, such as a favorite brand launching a new product line, a new season of a television show being released, or an artist announcing a concert tour.

This development marks a shift in Alexa’s role from a passive assistant that answers direct questions to an active shopping advisor that anticipates consumer needs. While users currently must manually configure these alerts, the technology is part of a broader AI strategy to create a more proactive shopping ecosystem.

Other existing AI-powered features within Alexa for Shopping include price tracking, which can alert users when a product reaches a specific discount or even execute automatic purchases. Amazon is also utilizing AI for personalized deals, shopping guides, product comparisons, and transcribing handwritten lists into digital shopping carts.
