Amazon and contractor skip union meeting on Malpensa job transfer, risking 196 workers

Amazon and its new subcontractor GDA failed to attend a scheduled meeting with the transport unions CGIL, CISL, UIL and UGL at Milan's Malpensa Airport. The talks were intended to address the transfer of Amazon's logistics operations from Malpensa to a site in Brescia‑Montichiari, scheduled for 8 September 2026. Unions warned that the change could jeopardise the jobs of around 196 workers employed at the Malpensa warehouse adjacent to Terminal 2.

The unions expressed “deep concern” over the companies’ absence, calling it a “serious breach” and demanding an immediate convening of a new round of negotiations with all parties present. They stressed that a change of contractor must not result in job losses or shift the burden of corporate decisions onto employees and their families.
