Amazon expands cloud and fiber‑optic investments in North Carolina

Amazon announced a new investment to grow its cloud‑computing infrastructure in North Carolina, building on a $10 billion expansion plan and more than $20 billion total investment in the state since 2010. In parallel, the company signed a multibillion‑dollar agreement with Corning to supply optical fiber for its data centers. The deal will create 1,000 advanced manufacturing jobs at Corning’s facilities, generate hundreds of construction jobs, and launch a Fiber Optic Technician Training Program with Catawba Valley Community College. Matt Garman, CEO of AWS, said, "We're also partnering to train North Carolinians for highly skilled roles in fiber optics and fusion splicing." The initiatives are intended to strengthen the U.S. supply chain, support regional economic growth, and meet rising demand for data‑center capacity.

These investments reinforce Amazon’s presence in a key market for its cloud services and underline a broader strategy of domestic manufacturing and workforce development in the United States.
