Amazon Games exits MMORPG publishing for Lost Ark and Throne and Liberty
Amazon Games is withdrawing from the MMORPG publishing market by handing back management of Lost Ark and Throne and Liberty to their respective developers. This strategic shift aligns with Amazon’s focus on cloud gaming via its Luna platform.
NCsoft will resume direct global publishing for Throne and Liberty, with the transition expected to be finalized by the end of 2026. The move aims to unify the global player base under a single service managed by the developer. Players on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation are expected to retain their character progress, inventory, and in-game currency, though they will need to accept new terms of service.
SmileGate will similarly take back control of Lost Ark, with the transition planned for early 2027. While players may face long maintenance periods and a loss of chat history during the Lost Ark transition, character data and progression will be preserved.
