Amazon Games MMORPG publishing withdrawal

Overview

Amazon Games is withdrawing from the Western live-service MMORPG market by returning publishing responsibilities for two major titles to their original developers. This strategic shift is intended to align the company with its focus on cloud gaming via the Luna platform.

For Throne and Liberty, NCsoft will resume direct global publishing, with the transition expected to be finalized by the end of 2026. This move aims to unify the global player base under a single service. Players on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation are expected to retain character progress, inventory, and in-game currency, though they will be required to accept new terms of service.

Smilegate will assume full control of Lost Ark in early 2027, managing Western publishing, customer support, and in-game stores. While most player data, including Steam accounts and wallet balances, will migrate automatically, some social features such as chat history, friend lists, and in-game mail may not be preserved.
