Amazon invested over 30 billion euros in Italy since 2010

Amazon has invested more than 30 billion euros in Italy since 2010, according to Giorgio Busnelli, VP and Country Manager for Amazon Italy. Speaking at the Ambrosetti Forum, Busnelli noted that the company now employs 19,000 people on permanent contracts and has contributed 23 billion euros in total added value. Additionally, Amazon supports over 20,000 small and medium-sized enterprises that sell through its platform.

Busnelli highlighted findings from a study titled ‘Unlocking the Future: High-Tech Investments for Italian Competitiveness,’ which indicates that Italy’s high-tech investments are more than 30% lower than the European average. Closing this gap could potentially add up to 27 billion euros to Italy’s GDP, representing more than 1% of the national total.

To address this disparity, the research suggests several key areas for improvement: reducing bureaucracy, simplifying authorization frameworks, ensuring stable and clear regulations, and addressing the digital skills gap. Busnelli emphasized the necessity of collaboration between businesses and institutions to align high-tech investments with international best practices.
