Amazon invests in water conservation and infrastructure in Oregon and Colorado River Basin

Amazon has announced significant investments aimed at water conservation and infrastructure improvement in the United States. In Eastern Oregon, the company is committing nearly $400 million to local water infrastructure projects to expand capacity and recharge local aquifers.

To support its data center operations, Amazon is implementing replenishment projects designed to return or improve 957 million gallons of water annually to the local ecosystem. This amount is nearly four times the total water used for cooling its Eastern Oregon data centers in 2025. The company noted that its facilities use outside air for cooling 93% of the year.

Additionally, Amazon is investing $20 million into the Colorado River Basin Collaborative. This coalition aims to mobilize $100 million over two years for water conservation projects across the basin, which serves 40 million people and 30 tribal nations. Amazon’s contribution will fund specific projects in California and Arizona to address the supply and demand gap caused by prolonged drought.
